The weather station is a Davis Instruments Vantage Pro (Wireless version). The Vantage Pro is used by thousands of weather enthusiasts, businesses, and individuals to collect real-time weather information. The sensors inside of the ISS (Integrated Sensor Suite) records weather data and relays this information back to a console. This console provides live information at-a-glance, updated every 2.5 seconds. A Data Logger sends the information to another computer running Ambient Software's Virtual Weather Station, which then generates the images and graphs found on the WeatherNet. SkyCam 1 is a CBC-100 Color CCTV Bullet Camera with a Sony 1/4" CCD image sensor. The camera is waterproof and works well in all weather conditions, even in direct sunlight. The camera outputs 380 lines of resolution and has a field of view of 78 degrees. We purchased the camera through Intellicam, a reputable dealer of video surveillance equipment. SkyCam 2 is an X10 XCam2 Wireless Camera. The X10 cameras do not have nearly as high resolution as the bullet cameras do, but they perform well outdoors -- even after 3 years of harsh weather -- and the wireless signal allows you to place one or more receivers anywhere within range of the camera. The lightning detector is a Boltek StormTracker. When lightning strikes, it emits energy in the form of low-frequency radio waves. These radio waves can travel for hundreds of miles and can be heard as "crackling" or "sizzling" on an AM radio during a thunderstorm. The StormTracker detects these radio waves and calculates the direction, distance, and intensity of the lightning stroke. It then sends this information to a computer running Aninoquisi's Lightning/2000 software which plots the lightning data on a map and creates a detailed graphical display. | ||||||
